וזאת התורה אשר שם משה לפני בני ישראל על פי ה׳ ביד משה “V-zot ha-Torah asher sam Moshe, lifnei B’nai Yisrael al-pi Adonai, b-yad Moshe.” This is the Torah that Moshe placed before B’nai Yisrael, by God’s word in the hand of Moshe. It is with great pleasure that I let you know that we have just raised enough funds to repair one of our Sifrei Torah through the Altman Torah Fund – and more!
At our recent Board Meeting w Yet, since the cost for repair was over $5,100, we were still $1,300 short. On the Shabbat of March 13, I spoke to the importance of repairing the sefer Torah. As I reminded the congregation of the appeal in my concluding announcements, I heard a shout-out that “it was already taken care of.” Barb & John Perlmutter and Laurie & Sid Bennett had agreed to fund the remaining amount. I was moved by their instant generosity. We thank you. In addition, baruch ha-Shem (as we say), during the week, others sent in generous contributions to the Altman Torah Fund. And as we still have a 5th Torah to repair, and the cost is also about $5,000, these will be the first funds towards that goal. We list those donors below, and would welcome your support as well. learned that we had $3,800 designated for the Altman Torah Fund. In 2010,
as a result of Jeremy Levy’s appeal at his Bar Mitzvah, a
significant amount of new money had been donated. Frank Altman had
tutored Jeremy and this was among the Levy’s recognitions of appreciation
of Frank. This revenue supplemented earlier donations honoring the
Altmans here at Traditional.
