Adult Education-5770

The Adult Education Committee sponsors a variety of programs throughout the year, including the annual Scholar in Residence Program, Dinner and a Movie (erev Christmas), Knosh & Knowledge (Sunday mornings), Shabbos Tish (immediately following Shabbat services), and many classes sprinkled throughout the calendar.

If anyone has topic suggestions for adult education programming, please contact one of the committee members - or better yet, join us!  We meet every few months. We look forward to seeing each of you at one or at all of our events.

If there is someone you would like us to consider for a Scholar in Residence weekend, please let us know.  The 2009 event was held on Nov. 13-15.  Please call Marian in the office with your suggestions. Thank you!

Respectfully,
Jeff Rose, Steve Rosen, Jeff Rosenblum, Cyndee Levy, Jules Stiber, Gail Tullman, and Rabbi Gordon

See the Events page for up to date listings of upcoming programs.

Many Exciting Opportunities for Jewish Learning in 2009

In addition to classes below, the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School – a project of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem – educational program continues.  The Melton program is a two-year course: two classes each year, back-to-back, each for an hour.  The program is fantastic:  great sources, motivated adult students, interesting lessons, with an excellent faculty.  Enjoy learning with other adults throughout the area.  Over 700 adults from St Louis have completed the course, many from Traditional.    Rabbi Gordon will be teaching the 2nd year Ethics course on Sunday morning (10:00-11:00 AM) at UH (United Hebrew) and Monday mornings (10:30 – 11:30 AM) at Shaare Emeth.  (CAJE brochure, p. 8)

The SLRA (St Louis Rabbinical Association) is offering an array of sessions entitled Sichot Kodesh:  Conversations with the Rabbis.” (CAJE brochure, p. 6)  Many rabbis will teach throughout the year from September–May, mornings and evenings.  At the Millstone Campus.

Monday mornings (9:00-10:15) Rabbi Gordon teaches a Torah class (in English).  About a dozen students attend, some for more than 30 years. Open to all.   At Traditional Congregation.

Monday afternoon @ CAJE (noon to 1:30 PM) – Midrash and Mishnah.  About a dozen students, two from Traditional, attend.  (CAJE brochure, p. 4)  At the Millstone Campus.

Monday evenings here at Traditional (7:00-8:30 PM) and open to the public, “What’s so great about the RAMBAM?” 10 Sessions.  The higher fee is because it is run through CAJE and part of a mission to reach out locally.  Subsidies are available.  (CAJE brochure, p. 4)

Tuesday night – new Torah curriculum.

Shabbat is always a time for learning – at Shacharit services, Tishes, special programs, and between Minchah and Arvit, with se’udah sh’lishit.  A number of our youth join together at Shabbat minchah.

Finally, our Shabbat B’Yachad program, funded in large measure by a generous grant from the Crown Foundation is seriously moving forward.  Come be a part of it!
