I’m pleased to announce that our youth calendar got off to a blazing start with our Succot campfire hosted by Dina and Morty Rinder on September 25th. The fire was toasty, the s’mores gooey and chocolaty, the company was second to none, and Boaz Roth (our Executive VP) singlehandedly took on the entire Traditional youth squad in a sweaty game of basketball in the dark. The rain threatened but then held off, and a good time was had by all. Todah rabah to the Rinders for making this all happen! The following Motzei Shabbat, October 2, the sweet smell of cloves filled the air as Jeff Melnick led a workshop on using etrogim to make b’samim for Havdalah. Thanks, Jeff, for a job well done. On Sunday, October 2 several of the teens gathered at Shul to assemble the new Teen Lounge at Traditional Congregation. Then on October 9 (motzei Shabbat) we held a Teen Lounge “kickoff party” featuring Kohn’s pizza, ping pong, video games and just generally hanging out with each other. It was very gratifying to sit back for a few moments and watch our young people enjoy being together in their new venue. Many thanks to Gail and Jerry Tullman and Mimi and Marty Levy for donating their ping pong tables, Jane and Boaz Roth for the couch, and Christy and Phil Brick for the pool table. Special thanks are also due to Steve Roufa, without whose help we wouldn’t have been able to transport the ping pong tables to Shul. Without all of your contributions this project would not have come to fruition. Other events in October included a Teen Bowling Night on the 23rd and a Pasta Dinner the following evening to raise funds for the teen lounge and other youth activities. This month we will have a Bowling Night for the younger kids (grades 7 and under) on November 13 and our annual Tradcong Family Football Game on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 25) at 10 AM at Shira and Mark Seigel’s. Todah rabah in advance to the Seigel’s for hosting this popular event for the second year in a row. May the best team win and, most importantly, everyone have a great time in the process. Stay tuned for more youth events to come, including a Movie Night and another Family Game Night this winter. I look forward to an intense rematch between Sid Levin and Jeff Rose for the Tradcong ping-pong championship! B’Shalom, Ken Levy, Youth VP

Passport To Israel. The Passport to Israel Program is an Israel incentive savings plan whereby individual families and participating congregations in the program invest a total of $200 each year beginning in 3rd grade and contribute through 10th grade. These funds, as well as an additional $100 per child given each year by the Jewish Federation, plus interest, can accumulate to a minimum of $3000 to be applied toward an approved Israel educational program. Those families who are not affiliated with a participating congregation must invest the full $200 each year to join the Passport program and receive the $100 grant from the Jewish Federation. The accumulated funds may be used to attend an approved Israel program between the conclusion of the 9th grade and before the end of the fall season following graduation from college. We hope that you will consider enrolling your child in this very worthwhile program. For further information, call 314-442-3756.
